PPL Rights and Fees
PPL (Public Performance License) is to cover fees that are needed
to be paid to the music industry, for playing there music in
public. It is NOT a requirement to pay these fees for any
private function (such as birthday parties, retirement functions
or weddings).
Any commercial function (such as an office
party, or general Christmas party etc), PPL fees are due.
However, if the event is being held in a commercial venue (such
as a hotel, or hall used routinely for such events), then it is
the responsibility of the venue to hold a PPL, NOT the
DJ.
The only time that the DJ is required to hold
a PPL, is when a DJ is doing a commercial disco, being held in a
non-commercial venue. As the PPL fees are around £300 per year,
and I am only asked to do a couple of such discos each year, I
do not hold a PPL. If required, I can obtain a one off event
license, but the cost will be passed onto the hirer. If your
event falls into this section, I will advise you accordingly at
time of booking. |
